Math is in Fashion at FIT

This interactive webinar focuses on the Math Emporium at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. Since 2011, Lasse Savola and his team have been developing and fine tuning ways to deliver developmental mathematics curricula to fashion students. Dr. Savola will explain some of the methods that have helped the FIT Math Emporium raise final exam scores, passing rates, and student satisfaction.
Lasse Savola studied mathematics at Rice University (B.A., 1997) and mathematics education at Teachers College Columbia University (M.S., 2000; Ph.D., 2008). His dissertation was a comparative video-based study of mathematics teaching methods in Finland and Iceland. Lasse is an Associate Professor of mathematics at the Fashion Institute of Technology—SUNY, where he heads the Math Emporium for developmental mathematics. He also teaches courses such as Geometry and the Art of Design, Islamic Art and Mathematics as well as Statistics. A native of Finland, Lasse enjoys playing ice hockey and music.
