Foundations of English: Meet the Authors

Learn about the development of Foundations of English from the perspectives of two of our authors! Michelle Williamson and Jocelyn Hirai will share the unique challenges they faced while designing their original instructional content and describe the philosophy and approach behind their work.


About the Presenters:

Michelle Williamson is a pre‐curriculum and curriculum English faculty member at Davidson County Community College in Thomasville, North Carolina. Michelle earned her Master’s degree in English Literature and Language from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. In addition to teaching, she serves on multiple student success committees and has worked as a professional writing and reading coach at both DCCC and JMU.

Jocelyn Ann Hirai is a pre‐curriculum and curriculum English instructor at Davidson County Community College in Thomasville, North Carolina. At Davidson, she serves on multiple student success committees and is building a placement review course for precurriculum English classes. Jocelyn earned her Master’s degree in English from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA. She currently lives in Greensboro, North Carolina, with her husband and three children.
