Keeping Online Students Engaged

It would be easy to think of online-only courses as ways to merely give information to students, without the amount of interaction you might see in a face-to-face course. But there are many ways to supplement online courses to keep students engaged.

In this session, Dr. Jacqueline Jensen-Vallin of Lamar University will share her experience and discuss ways to keep students logging in and interested, including posting frequent announcements, the use of discussion boards, and using Hawkes to continuously engage students.

Dr. Jacqueline Jensen-Vallin has served as Director of the First-Year Mathematics Experience at Lamar University since 2017. As part of this work, she is responsible for course design and coordination, as well as training of all instructors of those courses. She is also an associate professor of mathematics and editor of MAA FOCUS.
