Keeping Online Students Engaged with Rguroo’s Data Visualization Tools

Professor Mori Jamshidian has close to ten years of experience in teaching synchronous online courses. He has integrated Rguroo, a web-based statistical software, into his lectures with much success in teaching statistical concepts to his students at California State University, Fullerton. Data visualization tools within Rguroo have proven to be effective in keeping Dr. Jamshidian’s students engaged during his online lectures.

In this webinar, Dr. Jamshidian will give an overview of Rguroo’s data visualization capabilities. He will demonstrate how you can keep your students involved by exploring data, identifying interesting outliers, discovering patterns, and customizing graphs using Rguroo.

Dr. Mori Jamshidian is a CNSM Distinguished Professor in the Mathematics Department at California State University, Fullerton (CSUF). He serves as the Graduate Advisor for the Master of Science in Statistics at CSUF. His past positions include Associate Professor of Statistics at the University of Central Florida and Senior Statistician at the BMDP Statistical Software. His research area is broadly in computational statistics with publications in major theoretical and applied journals such as the Journal of the American Statistical Association, Journal of the Royal Statistical Society, and Psychometika. He is currently an Associate Editor for the Journal of Computational and Graphical Statistics. In the past, he has served as Associate Editor for The American Statistician, Journal of Statistical Software, and Journal of Statistical Computation and Simulation. His current activities include research in statistics education and the development of statistical software for teaching statistics.
