Online testing in Mathematics and other STEM courses requires thoughtful exam construction and careful monitoring to guard exam integrity. In this session, University of Miami’s Dr. Joy Beverly will explore techniques for constructing exams that minimize cheating and will outline monitoring practices to promote academic honesty.
Dr. Joy Beverly is a Mathematics Lecturer at the University of Miami. She teaches several undergraduate mathematics courses, including Finite Mathematics, Pre-Calculus and Calculus. Her research interests include innovative classroom approaches, student persistence and integrated curriculum. Dr. Beverly studied mathematics and education, earning her B.S. degree from the University of North Alabama and her M.S. degree from Troy University. She earned her EdD in Higher Education with a concentration in Educational Research and Statistics from Florida International University. She has been teaching university mathematics for more than 30 years, beginning with positions at Troy University and the University of Alabama Birmingham. She moved to Miami to teach at Florida International University before moving to the University of Miami in 2001. Dr. Beverly is a UM Excellence in Teaching Award recipient, the Faculty Advisor for U Pup, and a member of Iron Arrow.
