Customizing for Success

Fenecia Foster, mathematics instructor at Southeast Technical Institute in Sioux Falls, SD, will share tips and strategies to customize your developmental mathematics course in order to increase student buy-in. She will share ideas for customizing using both Hawkes courseware and supplemental activities that you can bring into your classroom right away. Learn how to engage students through connecting their math lessons to their interests and real-life situations so you don’t have to hear the age-old question “When will I use this?” again!


About the Presenter:

Fenecia Foster is a Mathematics Instructor at Southeast Technical Institute in Sioux Falls, SD. Shereceived her Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics from Augustana College (SD) and her Master of Arts in Teaching Mathematics from Minot State University (ND). She taught 7th-12th grade mathematics for five years prior to moving to the postsecondary level in January of 2013. Fenecia is a member of the American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges (AMATYC) and is the recipient of a Project ACCCESS fellowship that is providing her the opportunity to network with instructors across the country and learn about upcoming math trends in technical educations. She is also a member of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and eagerly seeks out professional development opportunities.
