Foundations of Mathematics for Virginia is a new custom course designed specifically for the state of Virginia. Our mastery-based software and companion guided workbook have been tailored to the nine units of the VCCS curriculum.

Our goal is to deliver a curriculum uniquely designed to better prepare students for college-level math. Error-specific feedback

Your students get detailed feedback from the system’s artificial intelligence. Students can use the Tutor button, which breaks down questions with guided, step-by-step tutorials and detailed explanations.

If students get incorrect answers, the Explain Error anticipates and diagnoses specific errors. Check out an example from Unit 4 below:

When the question asks to solve for y in 6 equals y plus 7, I incorrectly answered 13.

The student made a common mistake. After submitting the incorrect answer, the student can choose the Explain Error feature to receive the following feedback:

The courseware identified my specific error and alerted me that when I added 7 to the lef-hand side, I should have subtracted it.

Students can then choose to break the problem down step-by-step, refresh themselves on the mathematical concepts in the Learn mode, and check the solution.

Want more materials to further supplement your  course? You got it! We offer both a guided notebook and workbook for students who prefer writing out their notes on paper or who need a little extra help with solving some of those problems.

The Foundations of Mathematics for Virginia Guided Notebook provides fill-in-the-blank questions and notes that walk students through the material provided in the Learn mode of the courseware. This notebook helps students improve their note-taking skills by drawing their attention to each lesson’s main content and encouraging them to apply these notes through a diverse range of examples. Instead of passively taking notes, students are actively engaging with the material.

Students have images, charts, and graphs that help aid their understanding of each unit’s main concepts, like the chart breaking down complex numbers below.

Alternatively, the Foundations of Mathematics for Virginia Workbook helps students understand how to apply mathematical concepts to other lessons and real-life situations through different examples.

The workbook examples ask students to add large numbers and find the perimeters of two shapes to test their knowledge.
